Van Westen Vineyards V 2019

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIt is vintage 11 for V, the Van Westen Bordeaux blend of 45% merlot, 24% cabernet franc, 16% malbec, 7% cabernet sauvignon, and 8% petit verdot. It offers a slightly more elegant mix than Voluptuous, blending complexity and intensity in just the right amounts. The nose is classic Okanagan, showing dried sage, rich black plums, and tobacco, which rush to the palate in equal measure. Its full-bodied Naramata style with ripe fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a whack of minerality. This is one to lay away for five to seven years. The alcohol tops out at 14.5 percent, aged in French oak barrels for 21 months. The fruit comes from four vineyards: Home Lot, Boothe Road, Granite Ridge, and Salting, all on the Naramata Bench.Tasted: 16 November 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
