Painted Rock Red Icon 2020

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaPainted Rock fans won’t be disappointed with this 2020 Red Icon. The mix is a 39/31/14/12/4 blend of merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon, and malbec, all aged 18 months in 30% new French Oak. Each selected vineyard block is hand picked, berry sorted, and then divided into small batches, cold soaked for four days, and fermented for three weeks with twice daily pump overs. The Painted Rock style is always a big despite a strict Bordeaux farming and winemaking regime thanks to a mid-valley vineyard that soaks up the sun from dawn till dusk. The colour is opaque, the nose a smoky red but primarily black fruit affair with cedar and mushroom throughout. Firm but silky tannins invade the palate from front to back, finishing with cassis, blackberries, baking spices, and dark chocolate. This will need a decade to come into its own.Tasted: 04 November 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
