CheckMate Artisanal Winery Attack Chardonnay 2020

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaConsistently at the top of the heap among the Checkmate chardonnay collection, 2020 does not disappoint. A blend of terroir and foudre fermenting vessels (large oval casks) makes it unique among the group. Both foudres were new this year, adding the highest amount of new oak ever, but the structure of Attack can easily absorb the wood. It opens with an alluring lemon and saline seaweed nose with a vanilla undertone. The palate has an understated elegance marked with spiced pears, tangerine, and seawater. It is handpicked at night, assuring a freshness that permeates the wine. The fruit is a 61/24/15 mix of Jagged Rock, Border Vista, and Dekleva vineyards containing Dijon 76 and the local Dekleva clone.Tasted: 17 November 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
