Bachelder Bai Xu Vignes de 1981 Chardonnay 2020

Four Mile Creek, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaIt is worth noting that Bai Xu vineyard is one of the oldest vinifera plantings in the region, as evidenced by their Grape Grower number: 011. The nose is mostly pear with a subtle nutty undercurrent that is barely there in a good way. It is broader on the palate than expected, with similar creamy notes I saw in the Bator. It was a warmer year, but it appears to have escaped most of the heat save for a little mid-palate weight that dissipates through a long honeyed, somewhat savoury finish that, like most Bachelder wines exhibits little, if any, oak characters. It is clone 95 grown in sandy, loamy sediments over lacustrine clay with bits of silt and limestone. Bachelder lauds the excellent moisture holding properties, which help sustain the vines through the drier summer months.Tasted: 29 November 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
