Il Borro Borrigiano Organic 2019

Arezzo, Tuscany, ItalyBorrigiano is the first wine to come from the Il Borro winery under designated Valdarno di Sopra DOC and with organic certification. Records suggest Il Borro dates back to 1254 when the Mscagni family purchased the castle of Il Borro and the surrounding land. Ownership has changed throughout the years but was most recently bought in 1993 by Ferruccio Ferragamo. His son Salvatore now leads the project of this baby SuperTuscan. The vineyards of sangiovese, syrah, and merlot are planted to a density of 5000 vines per hectare, and in 2019 the mix went to a combination of large oak casks of 75hl and 50hl, and a blend of 40/35/25 merlot, syrah, and sangiovese. The style is generous thanks to ten months of ageing in wood. I love the subtle cherry and white pepper that pervades the freshness and spice in this red wine. Serene, balanced and nuanced, this is a delicious wine you can drink or hold. In Tuscany, bread-based soups (ribollita, pappa al pomodoro), fresh or lightly aged cheese, and lighter meat dishes are paired with Borrigiano. I would recommend wild boar pappardelle pasta as well. Now for the best news of all, you can buy this wine in BC Liquor Stores. The Il Borro estate is located about 45 minutes south of Florence within the Valdarno Valley of Tuscany. The Valdarno di Sopra DOC designation was one of the original four wine appellations within Tuscany recognized by Cosimo de' Medici III, the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Today, Valdarno di Sopra D.O.C. is working toward becoming the very first Italian wine denomination requiring organic production.Tasted: 15 October 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
