Tedeschi Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore 2017

Pedemonte Valpolicella, Verona, Veneto, ItalyMaternigo is an all-Tedeschi red. That is to say, it has muscles, and at the right time, it flexes them — a rare occurrence in the Valpolicella market. It opens with sweet aromas of black cherries, vanilla and a whiff of milk chocolate. On the palate, figs, anise almonds and peppers all streak through the black fruit flavours. The blend is 40/30/30 corvina, corvinone, and rondinella, all grown organically at Impervio Vineyard, which sits at 400 meters over worn white and yellow marble. The fermentation with the stalks takes palce in 20-25 hectolitre Slavonic oak vats. It is not a shrinking violet at 15 percent alcohol, but it is well-balanced, making it an ideal dinner wine for steak or after dinner paired with mature cheese.Tasted: 19 September 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
