Scorched Merlot 2017
Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is an Oliver-based 100 percent merlot aged 24 months in 40 percent new French oak barrels followed by 18 months in bottle before release. 2017 is lighter in colour than 2016, with a slightly muted nose leaning to a leafy, earthy, savoury side that carries onto the palate. Black cherry and cocoa powder line a round soft palate with little or no tannin at this point. It lacks charm; otherwise, it is an authentic merlot ready to drink.
