Langa Classic Garnacha 2018

Calatayud, Aragon, SpainLanga is a small family owned winery in Calatayud, founded in the mid 19th century. This garnacha comes from 70-100 year old vines rooted in slate / stony soils between 800-1000m. After a native ferment in stainless, this rested 12 months in American, European, and French oak. The wood treatment is evident, and unnecessary, somewhat overruling the complexities of these very old vines and special site. Still, black cherry, black raspberry, black liquorice emerge, over a bed of crushed stones, with ferrous threads pulling this to a lingering, warming, medicinal-tinged finish. Tannins are soft and sticky, encouraging a partnering with lamb / mushroom dishes. Fantastic packaging, fantastic value.Tasted: 29 September 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
