Tantalus Riesling Lab Hard Pressings Experiment 11 2021

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOne of the best things about getting old in the wine business is that it means you can start to experiment with confidence, and that’s what the Riesling Lab is all about at Tantalus, now among the best riesling producers on the continent. This is year 11 of the Riesling Lab experiment, a chance for the cellar crew to use the hard pressings of all the riesling blocks not used in the top wines. The 21 was wild fermented in old oak puncheons and barriques and got a five percent addition of gewürztraminer to the finished wine for spice and lift. It is one of the best experimental labels I have tasted, loaded with lime pulp, floral orchard fruit blossoms with an off-dry palate (16 g/L), with notes of honeysuckle, guava and pear flooding the finish. The well-managed sweetness gives it another dimension to take on ribs, spicy tuna rolls, or a favourite spicy vegetarian dish. It is up to you to experiment now.Tasted: 12 July 2022Tasted by: Prices:
