Rivetto Barbera d'Alba Zio Nando 2019

Alba, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyYouthful, energetic, travelled Enrico Rivetto farms his family's estate with a philosophy beyond biodynamics (they are the first Demeter certified winery in Barolo), and towards complete biodiversity. Zio translates to uncle in Italian, and the vineyard that forms an important part of this wine was planted by Uncle Nando in 1944. This youthful red uses one third of 1944 vines from a vineyard planted at 365m, on sandy, western-facing slopes. It was native fermented in stainless. Fleshy dark cherry and plum is laced with black pepper on a vibrant palate, with fine, firm, lengthy tannins housing this to a lingering saline finish. Bright acidity keeps this buoyant and joyous in the mouth, while the structure makes it made for food (think pork / mushrooms).Tasted: 30 August 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
