Le Ragnaie Civitella 2020

Tuscany, ItalyRiccardo and Jennifer Campinoti purchased this Montalcino property with a mix of old vines and younger plantings, and established Le Ragnaie in 2003. The organically farmed estate is divided into three distinct parcels across 42 acres in Montalcino. These vines are the highest of any in Montalcino, some reaching above the DOCG mandated 1,960 feet above sea level. This Fiano di Avelino comes from Vigna Civitella, and was native fermented with 5 days on skins in stainless prior to 9 months in 660 L French Barrels. It was bottled without fining, and with minimal filtration. Pouring a shining gold hue, this skips along the palate with wild lemon, kumquat, lime blossoms, mandarin pith, and apricot skin texturing the slight, saline frame. Taut, stencilled, bone dry, and interesting, this is not your typical Tuscan white / orange, and one for adventuresome drinkers to seek out.Tasted: 30 August 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
