Bodegas Zárate Albariño El Palomar 2020

Val do Salnés, Rías Baixas, Galicia, SpainFounded in 1707, the family owned Zárate estate is located in Rias Baixas' Vale do Salinas subregion. Their sloping, weathered granite vineyards are translated via Albariño, a grape intrinsically associated with the estate. Seventh-generation Eulogio Pomares runs this historic bodega today, farming almost fully biodynamically. This special cuvée is from 150 year old vines, amongst the oldest documented in Rías Baixas. It was fermented in a 2200L French foudre where it rests on lees until bottling. Pouring a deeper yellow hue, via the time in wood, this fills the mouth with creamy lemon curd, pear, lemon thistle, all bristling with a firm, salty, granitic grip. Incredibly complete, mouth-filling, with wonderful freshness to counter and draw this through a lingering finish.Tasted: 28 August 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
