Bachelder Les Villages NOTL Chardonnay 2020
Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaThomas Bachelder released two Les Villages Chardonnays in 2020, both made identically. One was from Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL), and the other from the Bench. This cuvée is mixes grapes from The Willms, Bator, Bai Xu, and Patte Rouge parcels. After a native ferment in primarily neutral French oak, it spent 16 months on lees with no stirring. It's uncharacteristically ripe, which will have broad appeal for the California chardonnay crowd, although I must say the leesy underscore and spice tones down the New World leanings, offsetting its rich, creamy palate.
