Hillside Rosé 2021

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHillside makes an all-Naramata rosé that bucks the pale pink barely-there style that is all the current rage. The colour pours a deep pink hue partly due to the grapes involved in this year's blend. A premium block of merlot is crushed directly to the press and given minimal contact, while the rest of the mixture comes from small portions of juice brained or bled (saignée) during cold soaks from blocks of merlot (68%), cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc. As a result, the palate is awash in intense, juicy red and pink fruit, like cherries, pink grapefruit and blood orange. A small amount of muscat ottonel and viognier is added for lightness and a floral lift. A bump of residual sugar suggests you serve it well chilled and or serve it with a favourite spicy food item.
