Chalone Chardonnay 2019

Chalone, Monterey County, Central Coast, California, United StatesThe 2019 fruit comes from the oldest, highest quality vineyards, and 50 percent of those vines were planted on the estate in 1971, 1972, and 1973. Known as the MacWood heritage selections, the tiny berries yield much flavour intensity and excellent structure to the iconic Chalone Chardonnay. With a long history of sales in BC, it was a pleasure to finally see the wine back in the market. 2019 was aged eight months in French oak, but only 10 percent was new. The attack is complex with its leesy, apricot, green apple, and pear, the perfect foil to a mineral, wet stone back end, courtesy of its granite and limestone origins. Chalone is the oldest winery in Monterey County, dating to 1919, with the production under the Chalone vineyard brand beginning in 1960.Tasted: 03 May 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
