Matthias Warnung Feldstück Chardonnay NV

Kamptal, Niederösterreich, Weinland Österreich, AustriaYoung naturalist winemaker Matthias Warnung honed his craft around the world, most noticeably with the guru of natural wine in South Africa, winemaker Craig Hawkins of Testalonga. He farms 10 organic hectares in the Kamptal, taking over the family winery operations from his father in 2010. This skin contact chardonnay comes from 20 year old vines in loess and gravels. Whole bunches are native fermented in older 400L barrels, where it remains for 2 years prior to bottling unfined, unfiltered, with minimal sulphur. Apricot pith, white peach, green apple, smoked stone, ash is slicked with a sheen of white honey, and taut with a finely grippy texture, thanks to the skin time. The whole is beautifully integrated, lofted with an easy acidity, to a lingering lemon pith finish. Lovely poise and purity throughout.Tasted: 22 April 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
