Domaine Gavignet-Béthanie et Filles Cuvée Arthur Retière Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Athées 2018
Nuits-Saint-Georges, Côtes de Nuits, Côte d'Or, Burgundy, FranceDomaine Gavignet-Béthanie et Filles was formed in the 1970s when third generation wine-maker Christian Gavignet (whose father Gaby was the winemaker at the Hospices des Nuits) married Michèle Béthanie, who had family vine-holdings herself. Their daughters, Christine and Claire, have successfully run this sustainably farmed 9 hectare family enterprise since their first vintage in 2001. This cuvée works with 40 year old vines in clay silts over limestone. This aged 1 year in barrel prior to release. Round and darkly fruited, with dark cocoa infiltrating black cherry, dusky plum, forest berries flooding a fleshy palate. Tannins are fine, firm and steely, taking this to a drying finish.
