Strandveld Vineyards First Sighting Shiraz 2019

South AfricaFrom Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of South Africa (and thus, the closest to Antarctica), this shiraz is tipped with 5% grenache, from vines nearing 20 years old. This aged one year in 2nd and 3rd use 300L French barrels. Earthy blackberry, dark cherry is seasoned with peppercorns and streaked with leather. Tannins are a bit ragged, though there's a welcome marine freshness to this bigger red, finishing at 13%. One to crack into now, with grilled root veg and / or pork.Tasted: 17 March 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
