Modest Wines By Jove Sangiovese 2020

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA five-percent dollop each of merlot and cabernet franc are added to this sangiovese, which is sourced from Quinta Ferreira Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench. Sangiovese can be challenging to get right outside of Italy, but this is really impressive. There’s true varietal character, with juicy dark cherries, spice, and fresh florals, without sacrificing a sense of place, with desert shrubs that transport you to the South Okanagan. It’s not pushing the ripeness, extraction, or oak, and it’s all the better for it. Even at 13.9%, this is light on its feet and moreish, elevated by seamless balance and concentration that is above the norm. Even better with a light chill. I tasted the previous vintage blind at the NWAC and was equally impressed. Recommended.Tasted: 20 April 2022Tasted by: Prices:
