Champagne Pehu Simonet Face Nord Brut Grand Cru NV

Champagne, FranceDavid Pehu is the 4th generation to lead this Verzenay estate, with 7.5 organically farmed hectares across Verzy, Verzenay, Mailly, Sillery and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. They only produce Grand Cru wines, and this cuvée represents the Grand Crus of the northern slope of the Montagne de Reims. The blend of 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay was based on 2018, with 30% reserve wines based on their 2005 solera. It was fermented in a mix of 80% stainless and 20% barrique, with no MLF. After 36 months on lees, it was disgorged with 5 g/L. Toasty and creamy, with ripe red apple, brioche, cherry blossoms, lemon peel on a gently expansive palate, held taught with a brisk brace of lemony acidity. There's a lovely chalky shimmer to counter the weight of the red fruit, leading this to a snappy red currant finish.Tasted: 31 March 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
