Rectoral de Amandi Matilda Nieves Mencia 2020

Ribeira Sacra, Galicia, SpainBodegas Rectoral de Amandi is benchmark in Ribeira Sacra, not only for being the largest volume producer (2 million+ bottles per year), but also for being directly responsible for the development of this heroic mountain viticulture DO. Winemaking dates back to Roman times, and was continued by the monks in the Middle Ages. This cuvée was named after one of the founder’s granddaughters, and the grapes are sourced from vineyards in all five subregions of Ribeira Sacra. The blend is based on Mencía (85%), aided by Garnacha, and Sousón with vines ranging from 5-60 years old, rooted in alluvial, slate, pebbles, and granite. It was native fermented in stainless, where it remained until bottling. Soft and dusky wild plum, mulberry, blueberry, is scented with scrubby red florals across a juicy palate, brightened easily by altitude and viewed purely thanks to stainless. The medium body is lined with slate, and nimbly framed by long, wispy tannins, finishing with a dusting of white pepper. A real charmer, and one to enjoy liberally with a slight chill.Tasted: 28 February 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
