Donatella Cinelli Colombini Cenerentola 2017

Orcia, Tuscany, ItalyCenerentola (Cinderella) is named for the young girl in the fairytale with two older and more famous sisters who get all the attention. This wine comes from the Orcia appellation, a valley between the two famed territories of Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Though Orcia is often overlooked by its powerful siblings, the wines have authenticity, purity, and worth, much like the fabled Cinderella. This is a blend of 2/3 sangiovese, and 1/3 foglia tonda, a historic grape indigenous to Toscana, and rarely seen (only 20 hectares exist). Post ferment and aging in 5-7 hl tonneaux and 15 hl barrels, the wine is blended and rested in concrete egg prior to bottling. Mouthfilling and expansive, with dark purple florals, lusty wild plums, and cherries. Acidity is bright and vibrant, and tannins are velveteen, guiding the full bodied, harmonious wine through the lingering stony, dark cocoa finish.
