Domaine Jean Fournier Bourgogne Côte d'Or 2018

Burgundy, FranceDomaine Jean Fournier began in 1962 in Marsannay-La-Côte, a small village north of the Côte de Nuits. In 2003, Jean’s son Laurent took over the 16 hectare estate, certifying it as organic in 2008. This pinot noir comes off marl and limestone pebbles, was 80% destemmed and native fermented over 2 weeks prior to aging one year in 600L barrels. It was bottled with light filtration, and following the biodynamic moon calendar. Pouring a deeper crimson/violet this leads with ripe plum / prune, baked cherry, and sultry raspberry along a plumped palate. Tannins are soft and sticky, like the velveteen palate, which straightens itself a little on the saline finish. Feels baked, which might be an effect of the warm 2018 vintage.
