Vinyes Domènech Teixar 2016

Montsant, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainTeixar de Vinyes Domènech is the first wine of the DO Montsant and the fourth in Catalonia that INCAVI has granted the classification of ‘Vi de finca,’ referring to its single-vineyard status and very strict viti/vini rules. This organic/biodynamic red comes from a place in Capçanes known as the Font del Teixar, an area of 3ha located in a protected natural area between the Serra de Llaberia and el Montalt, at 400m, surrounded by pine forests. This is a very low production of 70-year-old Grenache Peluda (aka hairy garnacha) on sloping calcareous stones. It was native fermented in 300 and 500L casks before resting 14 months in old casks. Perfumed plum, cassis, wild blackberry, medicinal cherry flood a full, cushioned palate, framed by finely grippy tannins that lead this to warming, cinnamon and salted black licorice finish. Quite complex and layered, this is a giant of a garnacha, even now, best served with grilled lamb.Tasted: 01 September 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
