Phantom Creek Estates Kobau Vineyard Syrah 2018

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe year of smoke and wildfires has had little, if any, effect on this Kobau Vineyard Syrah, tucked underneath Kobau Mountain on the Golden Mile Bench. Instead, its southerly aspect gives it a gentle exposure to the early morning sun, escaping the late afternoon heat that coats the east side of the Okanagan between Osoyoos and Oliver. The nose is polished and inviting with rich black fruit and a sophisticated hit of new French oak, reduced to 40 percent in 2018 to great effect. Glossy and stylish, this is a surprisingly sexy syrah with one foot in the Rhone Valley and one foot in the Barossa Valley. Blueberries, black pepper, velvety tannins, and creamy textures give this wine wide appeal, which is no surprise for southern Okanagan syrah. You can drink this now given its balance, but I would cellar this five to seven years before returning to it. Refined quality. Think rich fall fare from lamb shoulder to roasted root vegetables.Tasted: 09 September 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
