Calalta Grièr 2016

Veneto, ItalyCalalta is a small winery at the foot of Veneto's Grappa Mountain, with vineyards located between 150 and 200 meters. Son Nicola took over in 2017, and together with his girlfriend Giulia, transformed the already sustainable project to organic farming and producing natural wines. Grièr is a blend of 94% syrah, 6% grenache off their highest vineyard, planted in 2009 beyond the northern woods. This was destemmed and native fermented, with 18 months in older tonneau prior to bottling without filtration. Wild plum, black raspberry cherry run the sleek 12.5% palate, seasoned with pink and black pepper and tickled with balsamic kisses. Crunchy acidity keeps this fresh, while fine, tuggy tannins hold this in close through a violet laced finish. Lovely honesty in this surprising natural Venetian blend.Tasted: 25 September 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
