Blue Mountain Single Vineyard Block 23 River Flow Pinot Noir 2019

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlue Mountain revamped its pinot noir program in 2017, adding three single-vineyard labels to the mix. River Flow Block 23 was planted in 1994 over rising sandy loam soil. The vineyard’s almost northern exposure, combined with gentle, east-facing slopes, expose the vines to cool morning sun, promoting slow, steady ripening and rich flavours. The clones are 113 and 114, and the vines are 27 years old. All fruit is washed and harvested, destemmed and placed in open top fermentation tanks. Post native fermentation, it is aged in 1st through 4th fill 228L French barrels for 17-18 months. The style is cleaner and fresher, with more plummy red fruit accentuated by its youthful acidity. I like the elegance here, and it should be a winner with another two to three years of bottle age and beyond. A classic match would be a mushroom stuffed roasted chicken.Tasted: 17 September 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
