Blue Mountain Single Vineyard Block 14 Gravel Force Pinot Noir 2019
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlue Mountain revamped its pinot noir program in 2017, adding three single vineyard labels to the mix. Gravel Force Block 14 takes its name from the many small, round stones mixed into the light clay soil that spreads over an old, dry river bed. The attack is round and mouth filling, reflecting the west and south facing vineyard that sunbathes daily. The thirty-one year old clones that go into the wine are 115 and 667. The remains are muscular, with a prominent earthy, barnyard, almost reductive nose that requires decanting at this point. One thing that jumps out is the acidity that keeps it fresh before the black cherry, bloody, earthy, mushroom notes kick in. At 13 percent, it also has an old school Burgundian thing going on. Give this three to five years to round into prime condition.
