Andi Weigand Silvaner 2019

Franken, GermanyYouthful Andi Weigand took over his father's Franken vineyards in 2015, and converted them to certified organics, and the wine programming into natural wine. They now work together as a united team, overseeing the vineyards on the Iphöfer Kronsberg, a slope that features Keuper (marl and limestone) soil. Andi uses an 80 year old basket press and very large wooden barrels, with no fining, filtration, or sulfur. This dry silvaner comes off 50 year old vines pressed into older 1250L barrels for native ferment and 10 months on lees prior to bottling. Juicy wild orange, mandarine, melon, green apple, kumquat ring through this medium bodied wine, finely gripped on the sides by skin tannins, and finishing with a saline rinse. Nice ease to this characterful orange.Tasted: 26 September 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
