Domaine des Escaravailles Les Coteaux Rasteau 2017

Rasteau, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceDomaines des Escaravailles was established in 1953 by Jean-Louis Ferran and his two sons, Daniel and Jean-Pierre, in the village of Rasteau. Today it is run by the 3rd generation, Gilles, who oversees the organic estate vineyards, spread across the southern Rhone. From Rasteau's stony slopes of clay and limestone, this blend of 80% grenache / 20% syrah was destemmed and fermented for a month with daily pigeage in stainless, where it remained for 9 months prior to bottling. Softer and seamless in the mouth, this fuller, savoury red teems with black cherry, wild blackberry, waves of iron, hints of scrubby dried herbs, and cracked black pepper. Tannins are softened with time, and acidity is lofted, leaving a stony buzz in its wake through the finish. Has the Rasteau muscles, but in an approachable form for drinking now. Very well knit and complete, as are all of Escaravailles' wines.Tasted: 25 August 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
