Da Silva Legado Merlot 2012

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaDa Silva Black Label Legado Series Merlot is the best of the best from the winery. 2012 was a solid vintage for whites and rosé but a little iffy for late-ripening reds. That said, mid-valley merlot escaped most of the late drama and rains, as evidenced by this delicious bottle. The fruit comes off two Penticton mid-valley sites: Blenheim Hill Vineyard, and Lazy Dog Vineyard. At this juncture, the wine is fully mature and working as one. The oak has dissipated the palate, dry with all the older notes you might expect from earth and cedar to subdued red fruits. The tannins are nonexistent save for a bit of shaping and weight. A wine for contemplation and to remind one that BC wines can easily go the distance. I would add that what is going on at Da Silva today far surpasses anything in 2012, which should give everyone a lot to look forward to.Tasted: 18 August 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
