Kin Vineyards Carp Ridge Chardonnay 2019

Ontario, CanadaKin Vineyards is a family estate winery on 47 acres in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, 10 of which are sustainably farmed vineyards, following organic and biodynamic principles. Located on the grey limestone of Carp Ridge, the vineyard is bisected by the Hazeldean Fault, leaving glacial till over limestone on the upper slope, and clay loam over limestone on the lower slope. This was native fermented and aged for 10 months in French oak (18% new) and 28% stainless, and is a mix of clones 95, 76 and 548. This underwent partial biweekly bâttonage, as well as partial MLF. This is quite primary at present, with youthful orange, lemon pith and ample broken stones on a sleek palate, shaped with stones, lined with reduction, and finishing with a lemony snap. This is not about the fruit, but about the soils. I'd love to see even more of the soils and less of the winemaking in the future. Well done.Tasted: 19 July 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
