Haywire Garnet Valley Ranch Pinot Noir 2018
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis special pinot comes off their high altitude, organically farmed Garnet Valley Ranch. It is native-fermented in concrete and open-top stainless tanks for four weeks, with gentle twice-daily punch-downs before being basket pressed into concrete tanks for ten months ageing before heading to bottle, unfiltered. It is quite smoky from the get-go, a cautious and unfortunate side effect from the wildfire-tinged 2018 vintage. Through the cloud of smoked wood, dusky plum, wild blackberry, black cherry emerge, ringed with firm stoniness and housed by fine, softly sticky tannins.
