Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards The Unwinder Ehrenfelser 2020
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI didn’t know that every four or five years, Ehrenfelser likes to take a rest. At Fitzpatrick, they think it “just likes to relax and unwind a bit?" It produces a short crop about twice a decade, and in 2020 it was one of those years. The long, warm fall helped its flavours develop nicely, and its signature early evening shade promotes brisk acidity to keep it fresh. It is fermented in stainless steel, 6% on skins. Look for a tropical nose with floral and orange highlights. The palate is similar, showing more ripe pear and stone fruit with a light dusting of minerals, spice, and desert scrub that counters the off-dry palate. This vintage saw 6% skin contact, and was fermented and aged in stainless. Fragrant and floral with apricot blossom, white peach, and lush pear, this is seasoned with lime pith, finishing with a buzzy hum that helps offset the bump of RS.
