Upper Bench Yard Wine 2018

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaYard Wine is a tribute to winery co-owner Gavin Miller, who once made wine from a tiny vineyard at his old home on the Naramata Bench. 2018, a 60/40 blend of merlot and cabernet franc, is youthful, offering primary black fruit and robust tannins from front to back. It is wild fermented in 30% new French oak and bottled unfined. The attack is similarly large and rambunctious, with rich black currant streaked with savoury desert scrub and intense spice. I like the wild spicy aftertaste, and with no chocolate, it presents much clearer. The single drawback is you will have to wait five years, but it should be well worth the wait. If you must drink it now, be sure to have a well-marbled piece of meat ready to meet this wine halfway.Tasted: 04 June 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
