Summerhill Pyramid Winery Estate Grown Chardonnay Demeter Certified Biodynamic 2020
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlocks 10 and 19 are home to this certified organic and Demeter biodynamic chardonnay at the Summerhill home estate in East Kelowna. It is natively fermented, and over the last few years, winemaker Michael Alexander is using more neutral oak barrels to build some extra texture. The attack is creamy with a mix of yellow fruits and lemon custard sitting over a mineral, stony underside that finishes with a touch of residual sugar. Each year is different and when you are using natural yeast, getting the ferment to arrive at the exact spot you want is not an option. Making this wine every year isn’t an option either. Only when it meets the winemaker's standard is it declared fit to be certified, and in some years, refreshingly, the wine will not be made. There is a certain elegance here that bodes well for future versions.
