Château Villa Bel-Air Blanc 2017

Graves, Bordeaux, FranceChâteau Villa Bel-Air is located in the Southern part of Graves, in the parish of Saint-Morillon, near La Brède. Villa Bel-Air's buildings have been listed as part of France's historical monuments and are a classic illustration of the French Revolution. In 1988, the Cazes family, already owners of Châteaux Lynch-Bages and Les Ormes de Pez, bought Villa Bel-Air, and Jean-Michel Cazes undertook an important programme of restoration of the winery and vineyards. This Bx Blanc is a blend of 65% sauvignon blanc and 35% sémillon, from the winery's gravelled and sandy soils. This was fermented cool in stainless before aging in barrel (30% new) on lees, with regular bâtonnage, over 9 months. Now 5 years on, this is showing some age, with sémillon's characteristic honeyed cusping ruling this structural white. Earthy lees and cracked flax make up the base for honeysuckle, bosc pear, dried apple, marzipan, rubber cement, white grapefruit pith all fading to a gently spiced finish. Lovely opportunity to try a Bx Blanc with a little age.Tasted: 17 June 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
