CheckMate Artisanal Winery Capture Chardonnay Border Vista Vineyard 2018

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBorder Vista Vineyard on East Osoyoos Bench is the warmest site that Checkmate farms; it sits just a few metres from the United States border. The single block designated 2C, planted to Dijon Clone 76 (in 1997), sits on finely textured, complex, low-nutrient, sandy soils. The fermentation is 100 percent native, and it is all done in water-bent French oak barrels. As in the past, it is surprising how fresh and elegant this wine can be given how warm the site is. It gets regular battonage for some 16 months of ageing in 50 percent new oak. Capture is all about texture and weight but with restraint. Look for creamy, buttery apple fruit streaked with pears, spice, honey, tangerine and sea salt—a perfect wine for fresh BC halibut.Tasted: 12 June 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
