Xanadu DJL Chardonnay 2017

Margaret River, Western Australia, AustraliaXanadu is one of the OG Margaret River wineries, founded by Dr James Langan in 1977. Now in the hands of the Rathbone family, this DJL Chardonnay comes off their Stevens Road and Boodjidup Vineyards, in MR's Wallcliffe subregion and is entirely the Gingin clone. After whole bunch pressing, this was native fermented in French barriques (17% new), where they remained for 9 months with periodic bâtonnage, and no MLF. Lemon zest and peel jump out of the glass, followed by a creamy, full and forward palate of lemon curd, ample toasty spice, wet stones, and an alluring reductive flicker through a saline finish. Though a generous wine, all the components (fruit, spice, wood, acidity) are in check, making this for lovely drinking now or over the short term, especially with butter-drawn dishes.Tasted: 15 May 2021Tasted by: Prices:
