Viña Chocalan Vitrum 2019

Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileOne of the icon wines of Viña Chocalan, Vitrum is based on Maipo cabernet sauvignon and syrah, with splashes of cabernet franc, malbec, carmenere, and petit verdot. The estate vineyards are from the Coastal area of Maipo Valley, near the Maipo River and rooted in granitic clays and loam. Each component is fermented individually before it is blended and aged for a further 14 months in French oak (50% new). This is a layered, complexed blend based around intense black cherry and blackcurrant, fleshed out with peppery spice box seasoning, pipe tobacco, menthol, anise through the full palate. Tannins are wood-hewn, but very well integrated, framing this through the lingering cedar finish. Ample freshness throughout to carry the weight of this powerful wine. Enjoyable now with grilled lamb or hearty grilled mushrooms, but this elegant red will certainly reward with time in the cellar.Tasted: 20 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
