Viña Chocalan Alexia 2017

Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileThis is the top wine of the winery (which you can tell by the obscene bottle weight), based on cabernet franc (75%) with merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot from the Coastal area of Maipo Valley, near the Maipo River and rooted in granitic clays and loam. This is aged in French barrels for 18 months. Potent and impactful, with herbal black cherry, cassis, raspberry, heady menthol on a dense and full palate. Cracked pepper and tobacco are woven throughout, housed by ample, well-integrated yet grippy tannins, and brightened with a fresh coastal acidity to a saline finish. Intense, this is drinking well now with an appropriately intense fire-grilled meal, but will be happy in the cellar for the next few years.Tasted: 20 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
