Serge Dagueneau et Filles Pouilly Fumé L'Odyssée Silex 2019

Pouilly-Fume, Upper Loire, Loire, FranceThis branch of the Dagueneau family, headed by father Serge, is based in Saint Andelain, and owns 19 hectares of old vineyards across several of the prime sites of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, as well as 3 hectares in the nearby appellation of Cotes de la Charite. Today the estate is run by Serge's daughter Valerie, cousin of the late Didier Dagueneau, and Serge still helps in the vineyard. The grapes for this wine are rooted in the profound silex soils that make this wine region so highly regarded. From the striking 2019 vintage, this is the inaugural release of this cuvée. This was whole bunch and native fermented in concrete eggs, where it remained on lees for aging. Bright grapefruit, pear, lemon verbena lead the stony palate, with a tight mineral grip streaming along the sleek frame, bedded with light herbal lees, and lingering with salinity. Very much in youth still, this wine will build complexity with time in the bottle.Tasted: 10 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
