Mount Mary Quintet 2015

Yarra Valley, Victoria, AustraliaThe iconic Mount Mary Quintet is one of the jewels of the Yarra Valley. This Bordeaux field blend personifies the refined, cool climate wines of the region. The vineyard was planted in 1971 on sandy clay loams, farmed organically, and has been dry farmed from the start. These fermented on skins for 14 days, followed by 22 months of barrel maturation, with 25% of the blend in large format oak (1500L or larger), and 30% in new barriques (225L). This was bottled with minimal fining and filtration. Savoury cherry, wild blackberry is lined with graphite and iron, running a long, dusty gravels palate. Tannins are similarly lengthy and fine grained, leading this to an herbal mint finish. Incredibly elegant, and savoury, with the bright lifted fruit expected of the Yarra.
