Mauro Molino Barolo 2016

Barolo, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyMauro Molino was born in Piemonte, grew up amongst the storied hills and iconic vines, and graduated from Alba Winemaking School in 1973. After a few years of making wine in Emilia Romagna, he returned to start his own winery in the Langhe following the passing of his father. Grown in calcareous and clay soils from vineyards across their holdings in Barolo, this wine is meant to typify the region, through Molino’s understated elegance. This was fermented in steel before aging in French oak barrels for 18 months. Pouring its characteristic nebbiolo orange glint, this opens with subtle smoked stones, ripe and dried strawberries, and fragrant cherries, scented with pipe tobacco and fine spices. Tannins are ample and firm, but long and fine, gently housing this through the lingering finish. Best taken now with lamb or wild mushroom / truffle dishes.Tasted: 13 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
