Leko Red Wine 2020

Adelaide Hills, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide, South Australia, AustraliaLEKO Wine is an Adelaide Hills sister brand to Clare Valley's Koerner Wine. Damon Koerner and his wife Maddy bought a property in Lenswood in 2017, now home to this winery. Damon developed a passion for the Adelaide Hills through his 10 years as a viticulturist in the region. The name LEKO represents Lenswood and Koerner while also giving a nod to Maddy’s maiden name, Lehmann. This lighter red blends 38% Pinot Noir, 35% Merlot, 21% Shiraz, and 6% Mencia from Coulter, Gower, and Deanery Vineyards, and the Adelaide Hills' clay and sandy loams. This was destemmed, with 50% whole berry, and native fermented in open top steel fermenters over two weeks' time on skins before pressing, and blending the free run and pressed juice. This then rested in 2000L Slavonian oak Foudre for 7 months, followed by a tightening stint in stainless for 2 months. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered, as evidenced by its hazy, medium cherry hue. Fragrant wild raspberry, rhubarb flood the juicy palate, woven with fine green herbaceousness, soft spice, and wrapped with downy, soft tannins. Acidity is lofty like the Hills, easily carrying this to a lingering finish. Very harmonious and moreish.Tasted: 14 May 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
