Domaine de Cébène Les Bancèls 2016

Faugères, Coteaux du Languedoc, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceThe highly regarded Brigitte Chevalier is the winemaker behind this delicious red, often described as textbook Faugères. Chevalier is a fan of cooler sites in the Languedoc, organic grape growing, and careful vinification. Les Bancèls grows on two parcels planted over schist: organic syrah and grenache face north and northeast; the mourvèdre vines tilt south. The attack is fresh and mostly red-fruited with a bit of black raspberry and light tannins. The finish is marked with white pepper, streaked with garrigue, and a gazing of minerality. No oak, just purity. Les Bancèls is a local term designating the schist terraces where the majority of Domaine de Cébène vines grow. 2016 was the driest season in Languedoc since 1944, and a small crop at least 10 percent below normal was the result.Tasted: 01 May 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
