Champagne Nathalie Falmet Brut NV

Champagne, FranceIn 1993, Nathalie Falmet took over the family vineyard and became a grape grower in Rouvres les Vignes in the Côte des Bar where she makes her wines. Grape grower and oenologist, she is one of the few women in Champagne to have both titles and to have both jobs simultaneously. This Brut cuvée is 50% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay, and 20% reserve wines from a perpetual solera. The base wine is fermented in stainless, where it rests on lees for 8 months prior to heading to bottle for secondary ferment. As a self-professed Chablis drinker, Nathalie aims for a short time in contact with lees, leaving the Champagne on lees for 27 months, to preserve the freshness, and “better reflect terroir.” She makes her own liquor de tirage, which is the rarity in Champagne, and finishes this with 5 g/L dosage. Red apple, green apple is layered with chalk and laced with lemon, pinning this in through the meringue finish. Very smart, drinking well now.Tasted: 31 August 2022Tasted by: Prices:
