Bachelder Les Villages Gamay Noir 2019

Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaAt only 12%, Les Villages Gamay presents with a bright, juicy nose as savoury as it is meaty and aromatic. The palate is full of red berry mixed with a touch of black fruit, and the combination is beguiling. Not as rich as the full BC version, but tighter and more focused with fine stemy mineral notes calling for a wild bird dish or a classic mushroom pasta. Winemaker Thomas Bachelder calls this a reserve level blend, fermented with 28% whole clusters to give it lift and brightness. The fruit is a mix of wild fermented sites and aged 16 months in neutral barrels. It’s showing well already, but it will age effortlessly through 2025. Bachelder is a small Niagara ‘Micro -Négoce’ winery with barrel cellars in Beamsville and Vineland. Proprietors Thomas and Mary Delany Bachelder are dedicated to making pure, mineral wines of elegance that speak to their origin, with no compromises.Tasted: 22 May 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
