Lock and Worth Cabernet Franc Rosé White Label 2020
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaTwo cabernet franc rosés were released from L+W's 2020 vintage: this dry white label one, from Naramata; and the off-dry, grey label rosé from Oliver. Instantly recognizable in the category for its near lack of colour (it's more a light tangerine hue), these cab franc vines were planted in 1995 at Poplar Grove. After destemming, this had 3 hours of skin contact in the press before a stainless ferment, and older barrel aging, with full MLF. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered. This is not about the fruit, but about the place. This is a slight, alluringly saline wine, bone dry and countered by the wild herbal lees bedding the 11% palate. There's some subtle quince, Rainier cherry, and apricot fuzz pencilling this rosé, finishing with a bergamot twist and rinse.
