French Door Héritage French Blend 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe French Door is situated just west and south of the Black Sage Bench, almost due west of downtown Oliver. The 2019 French Blend is 30 percent merlot, 25 cabernet franc, 25 cabernet sauvignon, 11 syrah, 6 petit verdot, and 3 malbec. The fruit is all hand harvested, hand sorted, destemmed and cold soaked. Fermentation is followed by 3-4 daily pump overs, leaving the skins in contact with the juice for some 50-65 days. It was aged without movement in less than 1/3 new oak and more than 50 percent neutral wood, all of which account for a stylish texture that presents elegance and flavour intensity. The nose is very Bordeaux with cedar, tobacco, and black fruits leading, flecked with blueberry, quince, and graphite. There is a lovely balance here, and what appears to be the perfect mix to age over the next decade easily. Young and approachable so that you can try it now, but my advice is to put this in the cellar through 2027 and only then should you begin to explore your collection. Well done.Tasted: 27 April 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
